Ever heard of a Sun Coupe?

Hi everyone, I've been searching for some information about my grandfather's '96 T Bird LX he bought about 10 years ago. I know it has the V8 but the strange thing is that it has some mysterious livery. On the sides of the door are the words "sun coupe" additionally it is pearly white and has gold accent stripes running across the side with gold plated hardware. He says the seats are specially embroidered.
Now he's over 90 years old and is thinking about selling it. It has 70,000 miles and is in great condition (always garaged). I've researched it online but have found nothing referring to a sun coupe.
Any ideas as to what it is or could be worth?

The only reference I found was a 1960 Thunderbird Coupe that has a Sun Roof as an additional option, A/C was also an option that year. Barrett Jackson had it listed as a Sun Coupe.
