1956 Trunk Lid won’t open

I attempted to open my trunk last evening. The key turned and I heard the usual thunk when the latch releases. However, the trunk did not open and now I cannot get it open (key turns with no resistance). How can I go about getting the trunk open so I can repair the latch?

You would flip the seat forward then go through the back curtain to get access to the lock.
