cruise control

Has anyone had any problems with their cruise control on a 2002. All the buttons cause the car to accelerate and the only way to cancel is to tap brake. Could it be switch ($40) or in computer?

1993 Cruise Control Amplifier- R&R I think I can see it but its above the right dash vent plenum above the glove box, and I don't see any way to get this big plastic duct out of the way without tearing out the dash- any ideas? Ready to take the saw to the plenum :-/.
